"Advances in Liquid Film Coating Technology" is the general subject of the 5th Symposium. It will provide a platform for the presentation of new results from fundamental and applied research as well as industrial developments in the field of coating. The program will include key note addresses, oral presentations and a poster session. In addition, a software and equipment exhibition will be organized. POLYTYPE and ILFORD, two companies engaged in coating technology and located in the Fribourg area, will organize ECS 2003. The Chemistry Department of the University of Fribourg will be hosting the Symposium, and lunch will be taken at the adjacent University of Applied Science of Fribourg.

Call for papers
You are encouraged to submit abstracts for oral or poster presentation in the following subject areas:
  • Fluid mechanics of thin film flows
  • Liquid film coating processes
  • Coating rheology and physical fluid properties
  • Wetting and de-wetting phenomena
  • Spray coating
  • Stability of coating flows
  • Powder coating
  • Operating boundaries of coating processes
  • Drying and curing
  • Fluid conditioning and delivery
  • Process control and measurement of coating processes

Deadline for submitting abstracts
All abstracts for oral presentations are due by March 31, 2003. Oral presentations will be scheduled for 20 minutes, followed by 5 minutes of questions and answers. Abstracts for posters presentations are due by June 30, 2003. Posters and vendor exhibits will be shown throughout the conference in a hall adjacent to the auditorium. The final Symposium program will depend on the submitted papers. Conference proceedings containing all oral and poster papers will be published after the Symposium.

The internet (web site, e-mail) will provide the principal form of information exchange between the organizing committee and symposium attendees. Updated information about ECS 2003 can be found at the following web site: www.polytype.com.

Interested persons should send their complete coordinates (name, title, function, affiliation, address, tel., fax, e-mail etc.) to the symposium secretary in order to assure receipt of information distributed via e-mail.

Symposium Location
The symposium will take place in the main auditorium of the Chemistry Department of the University of Fribourg, Chemin du Musee 9, CH-1700 Fribourg.

Registration
Registration for the Symposium shall be done via internet by filling out the registration form. Note that registrations will not be processed before receipt of full payment.

Accommodation
Symposium attendees are responsible for arranging their own accommodations. Fribourg has several hotels offering excellent services at reasonable costs. Complete hotel information is available on the ECS internet site at www.polytype.com.

Submission of Abstracts
All abstract for oral or poster presentations must be submitted electronically by filling out a templates, which can be found at www.polytype.com. The length of the abstract shall approximately be 2 pages, format A4. All abstracts will be collated and distributed to the participants at the beginning of the Symposium.

Submission of Papers
Papers for oral and poster presentations must be submitted electronically by filling out a template, which can be found at the web site www.polytype.com. The deadline for submitting papers is September 15, 2003. All papers will be published in Symposium Proceedings following the conference.

Exhibition
Exhibitors are encouraged to present equipment, devices and software related to coating technology. Exhibition tables will be available next to the poster boards in a hall directly adjacent to the main auditorium. The exhibition will be open every day before and after the Symposium Sessions as well as during coffee breaks.

Boat ride with refreshments on Lake of Murten. Symposium dinner at restaurant in medieval town of Murten.
